Bluehost vs Siteground: Why I switched hosting companies

Bluehost vs Siteground: Why I switched hosting companies

(This post probably contains affiliate links. Our full disclosure policy is really boring, but you can find it here.)

The big blog host debate these days: Bluehost vs Siteground… what’s the best hosting company for beginner bloggers?

There was no Bluehost vs Siteground debate when I started my blog on Bluehost. And for the last year I have recommended hosting with Bluehost to my readers. And I personally have never had any real issues with Bluehost. Their customer service has been fine and my site was only down three times over the past year. (I figured that’s bound to happen now and then.) Plus they seemed to be the cheapest option out there when I started my blog.

So why on earth would I switch hosting companies?

I used pinterest to go from 0 – 200k pageviews in 6 months. No boardbooster. No tailwind.

Yes, one more of these posts. They’re addictive aren’t they?! When I was first starting my blog and trying to get page views I read every single one of these I could find online for months. Looking for some secret formula that would make pinterest work for me.

And every. single. post. was a sales pitch for boardbooster or tailwind.

Even the expensive courses required you to purchase boardbooster or tailwind. Putting more money into my blog was a non option, and I decided to do pinterest without a scheduler. I was desperate to get just enough page views to qualify to apply to a bigger ad network and start making a little money.

But what happened just about knocked my socks off. (Yes – Socks. Off.)

I started pinning in May and by the end of August I was working with Adthrive – one of the premier ad networks in the country – and one with a requirement of 100k page view per month.

My pinning-without-a-scheduler method had fast tracked me to a full time blog income.  (more…)

5 Reasons You’re Not Making Money With Your Blog

(This post probably contains affiliate links. Our full disclosure policy is really boring, but you can find it here.)

I never dreamed I would know anything about how to make money blogging this soon.

I know I refer to myself as totally clueless and wandering around in the dark a lot. And that’s exactly what I was (when it came to blogging) as recently as a few months ago. But I guess at some point I need to allow myself to believe that I’m starting to get a decent grasp on some things “blogging”. I still have sooo much to learn, but there’s also a lot that I have already learned. I’ve even learned how to make money blogging.

Lately, particularly after posting my September blog income report, I’ve received emails posing the question, how do you actually make money blogging? (more…)

Affiliate Marketing: Can YOU really make money with it?

(This post probably contains affiliate links. Our full disclosure policy is really boring, but you can find it here.)

Recently I posted my September Blog Income and Traffic Report.

Blog income in September was significantly higher than ever before for me. And it was (in large part) due to the fact that I got serious about affiliate marketing.

But let’s be totally honest for a minute here. There are over 150 million blogs out there, and a fraction (I dunno, less than 10%?) of bloggers are earning any money at all. And even fewer are earning full time income. The fact that I was able to join the ranks of “the full time income earning bloggers” just 7 months into blogging has sort of baffled me.

I’m pretty grateful. I’ve prayed for this, and I have worked for this.

But is it a fluke?

Can I make this much money again? (Update: Apparently, the answer is yes! In October, I made over $2200.00 with affiliate marketing – just 2 months after taking this course – Read my October Blog Income Report here.)  (more…)

When 2015 turned into 2016, I did not have a blog

I thought a blog was a good idea… but I really didn’t know where to start. I threw the idea around in my head for a while. I didn’t really mention it to anyone, because very few of the people I spend time with even know what a blog is.

And then one day, in February, I came across a blog post that had a little timer embedded in it – counting down – only 4 more days till the whatever-it-was-promoting would be gone for another year.

A course about blogging.

Lemme tell you, I spent the next three days researching the heck out of this course. No way was I spending a penny without knowing what I was getting into. Because I didn’t actually have a blog.

I read over and over again, “this course might not be for you if you haven’t been blogging for at least a few months”. But I also read over and over again, “this course changed my blogging life”, “this course took me from zero to profitable”, “this course is the best thing I ever did”.

So of course I bought it. And then I figured out the blogging thing as I went. It was hard.

And was it worth it?

Well, just a few short months of (hard) work later, I have already published my first blog income report (read it here), I have over 120,000 readers per month stopping by my blog and I have just joined AdThrive – one of the premier ad networks in North America. I have totally recovered the cost of the course, and from here on out it’s all profit.

UPDATE: In October, just 8 months after starting a blog and taking EBA, I made over $5000 in one month with my blog.

So yes. It was worth it.

Ruth Soukup – the brilliant lady behind Elite Blog Academy – is THE woman to learn from when it comes to building a profitable blog. (Her’s – www.livingwellspendingless.com is worth 7 figures as of this year I believe.)

So get on the waiting list for Elite Blog Academy (it’s not a commitment to buy it, they’re just gonna let you know when it’s available and send you amazing blogging tips in the meantime), and get Ruth’s newest E-book “7 Surefire Ways to Boost Your Blog Income Overnight” for free. (Who knows, by the time the course comes out – in February – you might have already made enough money from your blog to pay for it. And that would be freaking. awesome.

If I could go back to the start of my blog and do ONE THING to make the whole “blogging experience” less bumpy from the start, it would probably be this: be organized.

Just so we’re on the same page, here was what my idea of organized looked like when I started –

This was very bad. I wasted A LOT of time trying to find things I knew I scribbled down once upon a time. I also had great ideas that got lost in the idea abyss. It was sad.

So to remedy this, and because I like projects that distract me from what I should actually be doing (um, blogging), I made these awesome blog organization printables. I can’t come up with a single good reason to keep ’em to myself, so I thought I’d share them here! There’s a page to organize your blog structure, a page to keep track of post ideas, a page to track income and expenses – (because there are costs to running a blog), one for link parties, and one for login info. (My blog binder also has extensive pinterest schedule info, but that’s coming in a later post!)

If you want a successful blog, you need to set yourself up to be successful. Don’t waste your time re-setting passwords and wondering what post goes in what category. Get on top of this stuff NOW, at the start of your journey. (Or like me, 6 months into your journey. Whatever, just start now!) (If you haven’t started a blog yet, follow my step-by-step tutorial to get one set up!)
