I don’t know how I feel about blogging today.

I know I want to do it, I know I want to be successful at it. But I don’t know if I’m really cut out for it. There’s this aspect of putting yourself out there to be judged by every human in the world who has a pulse (and an internet connection) that is absolutely, completely and utterly, terrifying.

I have a freaking awesome group of bloggy friends, and last night our discussion revolved mostly around a comment left on one of Jamie’s (from Simple Living Mommy) posts. A BULLET JOURNAL POST. I just can’t quite get over it.

7 Ways To Make Your Blog Look Less Like A “Newbie Blog”

7 Ways To Make Your Blog Look Less Like A “Newbie Blog”

I know you’re new at this.

And you know you’re new at this. But that guy over there, on Pinterest, clicking into your post? He doesn’t know you’re new. We should try to keep it that way.

Part of growing a following (and therefore an income) quickly – well… as quickly as possible anyhow – with a new blog is making a yourself stand out from the crowd of other newbie bloggers who look like… clueless lost people, just wandering around and bumping into stuff.

You can BE lost and bumping into stuff, but you shouldn’t make that totally obvious to those who land on your blog. That just scares people away. I should know, I made almost all of the mistakes you can make, and I’m still making some now. (YIKES!)

But, don’t fret, there are a few easy ways to help your blog look a little less new and confused than it really is. (more…)

How to Install WordPress Plugins (& Which Ones I’m Using)

How to Install WordPress Plugins (& Which Ones I’m Using)

What’s a plugin?

The first time I read about WordPress plugins, I had only one question.

A what?

A plugin. It’s sort of like an app, that you would get for your phone. It’s an extension that gives your website a functionality it wouldn’t otherwise have. Like social share buttons or pop ups that collect email addresses. (Maybe by now you’ve noticed that your theme doesn’t seem to have these, but all the other blogs in the world do?) Well, you can have ’em too… for FREE usually. Nifty eh?

Plugins are one of the MAJOR benefits of a self hosted WordPress site. You can’t get (most) plugins for the free platforms like blogger or even wordpress.com, thus limiting their functionality immensely. (more…)

YES, I said it. It’s time to blog.

You’ve purchased hosting, you’ve chosen a theme, and set up WordPress and Google Analytics. You set up social media accounts, blog email, and decided what you would write about.

It’s time to blog. If you didn’t do any WordPress tutorials… (well, I think you should have!) But if you didn’t do them, don’t panic. Writing your first blog post is exciting stuff. (more…)

A few more things before you start blogging

My previous post 5 things to do before you even touch WordPress was meant to set a good foundation for you to be ready to start blogging. You COULD start now.

But one day you would really regret not having done these things also, and I just couldn’t let that happen to you. There is SO much to blogging, so many aspects of it, that you just can’t cover it all in one post.

So where are we now?

You’ve purchased hosting, and you’ve chosen a theme. You’ve taken care of those 5 things to do before you even touch WordPress (right?). You know what you will blog about. Blog email is set up and ready to go.

And you are SO ready to get to the part where you do some real blogging.

It’s coming – I promise! Soon. Just a few more little things you want to get done before you start writing. (Well, maybe you don’t really want to get them done, but I would if I were you.)

Things you’ve never even heard of before need your attention today. You need to configure some WordPress settings (if you haven’t done so in tutorials). Your permalinks need your attention. And so does your Google Analytics. (more…)

A few very important things to do before you actually start blogging!

You have purchased hosting and installed WordPress. Then you chose and installed an awesome theme. You are almost a blogger!

I’m sure that you are down-right impatient, at this point, to get to the blogging. But trust me, do these things before you start writing, and you will never regret it. Do these things before you even start clicking around in your WordPress dashboard. (more…)
