4 Clean Kitchen Habits You NEED to Adopt

Coming home at the end of the day when my kitchen is clean. My favorite.

I love setting my purse down in the kitchen, and standing there NOT feeling overwhelmed by mess. (Maybe you’ve always had a clean kitchen, in which case you might not totally relate to what I’m about to say here. But if you’re reading this there’s a good chance that maybe you don’t always have a clean kitchen…)

Walking into my clean kitchen feels a little bit like when painkillers start to kick in. You know, if you’ve had a brutal headache, or cramps, or backache. And you take a Tylenol and 20 minutes later you can feel the relief and life is just better. (I’m not crazy, this is a real thing!)

I used to be messy. I HATED it. It was like the mess was causing me physical pain. Even though it’s been a few months now since I quit being messy, I can still feel the relief that not living in a mess brings. I can still appreciate that not messy is just SO much better than messy. It. Is. Awesome.  (more…)

Seriously, it’s a big deal

Claiming that anything is “life changing” is pretty cliche, I know. It’s the sort of statement we throw around, but it doesn’t really mean anything…

So I should really call this post something else, but I’m struggling to come up with anything less cliche that could actually convey just HOW MUCH this simple change in my habits has improved my life at home.

I’ve stopped being messy. I do this thing where I put stuff away now. (more…)

How I Conquer Clutter (When it’s Emotionally Difficult)

How I Conquer Clutter (When it’s Emotionally Difficult)

I understand the emotional attachment to stuff

Minimalist-living blogs and articles. I find them so inspiring.

But… almost without fail, those who are naturally minimally inclined don’t quite understand the emotional turmoil that some of us feel when we try to take on the (should be freeing) task of de-cluttering. So this post is for all you emotionally attached clutter bugs out there. The ones who WANT to live in a clutter free space, but your stuff controls you.

I get it. I am high-anxiety, seriously over-sensitive, and easily overwhelmed. Or at least I can be (I’ve really come a long way with the anxiety). I work everyday and sometimes with all my strength to bring my Sane Self to the surface. That’s what I like to call the little voice of reason that allows me to function (when I choose to listen to her – and I do that more and more these days). (more…)
